I’m so sorry to hear about you missing your son’s birthday. Unfortunately this path is not one that everyone is willing or able to travel with us. That fear kept many of us from making that ‘big leap’ for years or even decades. It’s impossible to calculate the balance sheet after we transition. Certainly we are finally able to be ourselves, but often much of who we were is torn from us in the process. This ‘cost’ is what fuels the dark side of transition. The loneliness and loss. This is why community is so critical to Trans people. Reach out, as you have done here to your community both online and at your local LGBTQ support groups!
