Great read! I saw the movie and was left with very mixed emotions about it. While I applaud Harper's audacity and Will for his sincerity and courage to stand up as Harper's friend, I was also saddened by their lack of boundaries and self-awareness. My heart broke for Harper when she walked into bars and public spaces. Especially in the circumstances where Will very boldly outed her. I think this was Harper's way of "testing public reaction" to her as a woman. My impression is that she was ultimately disappointed in the feedback. My thought after the film ended was that anyone who is thinking of Transition needs support. Reach out to your local LGBTQ community. Get involved and go out with others who can counsel or empathize. Once you feel comfortable and supported there, your chances of success and happiness in transitioning will go up enormously.
